Paw-Paw & Lady & the Tramp

On Friday we went to base to finish everything we needed to do to be official down here. Nathan and Kathryn were troopers through all of the running around from one office to another.
He's good at entertaining himself.
The only thing that kept Nathan going was the fact that Paw-Paw and Lady were going to be at his house later that day. When he saw and airplane he said, "I think Paw-Paw and Lady are on that plane." I had to remind him that they don't have to fly to our house anymore.

Of course I had to have water on the lens with the only picture I get of the two of them together.
It was so nice getting to watch from the side for once.
I was actually able to get some sun today. Every other day Kathryn is my SPF.
By three-year-old standards, Nathan had a pretty awesome weekend. In addition to hanging out with Paw-Paw and Lady, he got a trampoline. We were like the only house in the neighborhood without a trampoline, so we had to get Nathan one ASAP. I'm sure Paw-Paw wasn't thrilled to get to be the primary trampoline builder in the Alabama heat, but he did it anyway. Five gallons of Paw-Paw and Daddy sweat later, Nathan has his very own trampoline to jump on and wear himself out and hopefully start going to bed at a normal three-year-old time.
This is the only place that is bearable outside. Luckily we went with the 14 ft. one. This is where we're going to hold our backyard gatherings from now on.

I had to try it out first to make sure it was stable.
Then Lady had to give it a whirl. We can see into all the neighbors' backyards now. So much for the privacy fences.
Thanks for visiting, Lady and Paw-Paw. We'll see you again soon!

My Little Ponytail Girl

Finally! Kathryn's hair is long and thick enough to stay up in a ponytail. I've tried a couple of other times, but it never stayed. Here is her first ponytail. This is the first of many more ponytail days. No more mistaking my baby girl for a boy!
Up close.
Rear view.
Snacking with a ponytail.
Lounging with a ponytail.
Dining with a ponytail.
I hope you enjoyed Kathryn's ponytail as much as I did!

Taking It Easy

We haven't had a whole lot going on around here lately. We've just been hanging out before Steve's school starts next week. Steve isn't going to know what to do when he actually has to get dressed each day and go somewhere. He hasn't worked since the middle of June. I think Nathan has enjoyed having two stay-at-home parents. Mainly because that gives him the option to stay home when I have to go somewhere. He would gladly never leave our property if I didn't make him.

Not only has Nathan recently discovered sandwiches, but he also likes "food on a stick." It's surprising because he doesn't really like anything that didn't come from McDonald's.

Kathryn likes to join me as I do laundry. She actually prefers to be part of everything I do. As I was carrying her in the basket I told Nathan that instead of taking Kathryn's clothes off of her to wash them, I was just going to put her in the washing machine too. (I love this age. It's too much fun.) He got a concerned look on his face and immediately told me "Nooooo!" Then he thought for a second and it didn't seem like such a bad idea. As I was loading the washer he came back and told me to put Kathryn in there too.
My camera lens isn't dirty. It's just extremely hot and hazy here. It's hotter than blue blazes here. (It's my personal goal to learn and use some southern phrases while down here. Even though I'm from the South, I don't use southern terms and phrases like I should. Alabama is a whole different South than what I'm used to.)
After a quick trip to the end of the driveway and back, Nathan decided that he would rather play in the garage.
Here's a story to share. I've been going through all of Nate and Kate's baby clothes they've outgrown and organizing them. I had stacks and stacks of clothes on my bedroom floor that I told Nathan not to knock over. He had been good about it until one day he couldn't resist anymore. He didn't think I was anywhere around, so he thought he could get away with knocking over a few piles. He realized I was in the bathroom so he came in and immediately started explaining the situation to me. "Mommy, those clothes fell over on me." I asked him if he knocked them over and he responded with "yes." I told him that I asked him not to mess with the clothes then I asked him why he did it. He said, "Mommy, I just can't talk right now. I'm too busy." I asked him what he's busy doing. He told me he was going to take a bath now and that he just couldn't talk. This was in the middle of the day. Cute this one time.

Another quick story. Kathryn grabs at everything within reach all the time. In Nathan's presence, I told Kathryn she was too grabby. He misunderstood me and proceeded to join in saying, "Yeah, Baby Sister is too crappy!" I told him that's not what I said, but he refused to change his statement at that point. Then he said it over and over.

Georgia on Nathan's Mind

We drove to Georgia to drop Mace off for a week. The drive didn't start off very smoothly. Nathan took his shoes off and threw one at Kathryn, just to be mean. She didn't take it in a mean way and was just appreciative of him sharing his shoes with her. Nathan's plan backfired as he had to sit and watch Kathryn play with his shoe for the next hour until we stopped for lunch. I got to listen to him whine about her playing with his shoe as he begged for me to get it away from her. Serves him right. Yay Baby Sister!

Nathan was more than happy to be back at Paw-Paw and Lady's house. He had a fun-filled two days. It was nice being able to throw all of our stuff we needed into one bag and hit the road for a quick trip.

Check out Nathan's new trike. He wanted to bring it with us to Georgia so he could show Paw-Paw and Lady.
Kathryn decided that she really loves Paw-Paw too. Nathan always seemed to need to jump on Paw-Paw and wrestle with him when he picked up Kathryn. Maybe it was just a coincidence, I don't know.
Lady and Nathan playing Ring Around the Rosie.

Here is Paw-Paw giving him a driving lesson.

Poor Nathan. As I was loading up the car to come home, he told me that he didn't want to leave. He said, "Paw-Paw likes me. I'm not going home." Then Paw-Paw tried telling him how great Alabama was and his response was, "I only like Georgia." He cried the whole way to the gas station right before we got to the interstate. He was so sad. I'm guessing we'll be seeing Paw-Paw and Lady again soon. Nathan is getting used to living so close to them. If he doesn't get to see them regularly now, he might just have a mental breakdown.
