Dogless Days of Summer

Paw-Paw and Lady got home from the beach Friday evening, then jumped back in the car Saturday morning for a quick Alabama visit. They were only here for a little more than 24 hours, but we managed to pack in a whole lot of fun in that short amount of time.

Steve and I went to dinner and to a Montgomery Biscuits minor league baseball game. We didn't know it, but it happened to be Auburn/Alabama night. I accidentally wore Alabama's exact crimson color shirt. I felt dirty wearing another school's color and wanted to have an explanation put up on the giant screen that I'm really not an Alabama fan, I just didn't know it was Auburn/Alabama rival night.

While we were out, Nathan and Kathryn had fun playing with their grandparents.

Nathan made Paw-Paw and Lady watch a couple of movies, Monsters, Inc. and Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties.
Nathan kept remembering everything he needed to show Paw-Paw and Lady before they could leave. Nathan grabbed this book for him and Paw-Paw to read one more time because the 15 other times just wasn't quite enough. Then he remembered he had some tattoos that he needed to put on Paw-Paw and Lady before they could leave too.
As they were packing up to leave, Nathan was yelling at them not to take Mace as he cried, "Mace needs to stay at my house! No, don't take him!" It was so sad. He's really grown to love Mace over the past couple of months. One evening, Nathan and I were walking Mace when I yelled at Mace to come on. (He sniffs everything.) Nathan scolded me for yelling at Mace. His exact words were, "Mommy, don't yell at him. Mace is perfect." I guess he's heard me say something similar to that to Steve once or twice. After that, Mace was allowed to sniff everything for as long as he wanted because Nathan said so.
In this particular picture he was crying over Mace, but he cries when he has to say good-bye to Paw-Paw and Lady now too. It's so sad.
Reminiscing about old times with Mace.

Mace looks very appreciative of Nathan sharing his blanket with him in Alabama in August.
Nathan stole the spatula for the frosting and licked all over it. Luckily Mace was there to help clean him up.
Then Baby Sister shared her green beans with him. She gets such a kick out of feeding him.
No matter how hot it was outside, Mace chose to suffer through it as long as we were out there.
Baby Sister likes sidewalk chalk now too. She actually likes to eat it.
Nathan likes driving down this road. Unfortunately for me, his feet don't reach the pedals yet, so I end up pushing him back up the driveway each time.
Just thought I would share this picture. It's pretty impressive how big of a mess she can make with biter biscuits.

  1. We had a great 24 hours with Nathan and Kathryn.
Mace is resting comfortably in our quiet home.
    Love, Lady
