Life is Grand

Nathan got another dose of grandparent spoiling this weekend. Grandma made a quick trip to Rapid City. Nathan was surprised when he saw Grandma first thing Saturday morning. He sure has taken advantage of having an extra playmate around. He hasn't rested since she got here.

Nathan showed Grandma some of his favorite places to visit. First stop, Old Mac's Farm. He introduced her to the goats and cows, then headed over to watch the pig race and finished it off with an exhilarating train ride around the farm.

Before we left the farm, Nathan demonstrated how the penny smashing machine works.

Thanks to Grandma, Nathan is all ready for college football this season. He looks like he would fit right in at U.T....
.....Especially with his "Beer Money" piggy bank filling up quickly during Grandma's visit.
Taking a drink break.
Nathan took Grandma to one his favorite restaurants too. Mmmm, Long John Silver's.
Steve and I went to a wedding Saturday night so Nate and Grandma hung out all night. They went to the park to swing and play and feed the ducks. Then Grandma did a little bit of reading. Nathan's newest addition to his vocabulary is the word, "ot da da." In case you're wondering what in the world that word is, it's "octopus." The book Grandma read to him over and over had a lift-up flap with an octopus underneath.
That was Nathan's grand weekend with Grandma. It was short, but definitely sweet!

Dino-mite!

Nathan and I wandered up to Dinosaur Park today. It's a park situated on top of a big hill overlooking Rapid City. There are huge dinosaur statues scattered along the hill. Nathan loved it. His favorite part was probably everyone else's most dreaded.....the many, many steep stairs you have to climb to get to the top. He also liked the dirt and gravel quite a bit.

Then Daddy came home and took Nathan to the park and Firehouse Brewery. I had to clean the house because Grandma is visiting tomorrow and she's buddy-buddy with our landlord. I want her to give us a good report.
As always, Steve enjoyed the attention he got while in Nathan's company. Steve said he's going to start taking Nathan out for dinner more often because he's a chick magnet. Fine with me, give me some peace and quiet!

Park Place

I have deemed our yard a danger zone until we find the yellow jackets' nest. Not to worry though, Nathan got plenty of outside time at Canyon Lake Park. We ran around and played and fed the ducks and geese. Nathan got such a kick out of throwing bread to the ducks. He played so hard that he just couldn't take anymore. He came up to me and wanted me to hold him. That is a definite sign that he's tired.

Running around, tiring himself out.
This is a lot of ground to cover for those little legs.
Gazing out over the lake.
"Hmmm, I wonder if she'll notice if I sneak away for a swim?"
Feeding the ducks.
This was his reaction after each throw.
Watching Nathan's reaction was the best part of the day.
Nathan said, "duh" for duck and clearly said "goose" for goose. He also started mocking me when I called his name....."Nanan."
I tried to keep this part of the park secret because there is no railing around the lake. No such luck.
I had to stop him from crawling down the rocks a couple of times.
I thought for sure Nathan was going to come home and fall right to sleep, but he tricked me. He did a little reading instead.
Daddy is flying late tonight so we tagged along with Tyler and his mom and dad and went to Chuck E. Cheese's. That was Nathan's first time there. He had a blast. I think his favorite part was drinking fruit punch out of the light up cup. I had to pick him up and take him to the rides and games. He would have been content just standing near the drink station guzzling fruit punch.
Nathan is doing some serious thinking about which ride he wants to spend his token on.
Nathan is cruising around with his buddy, Chuck.

We got Saber back. Tyler and his family are going to Denver for a few days. Nathan was happy to come home to Saber tonight. I had to fight Nathan to get him to take a bath. With each attempt to shut the door, Nathan immediately wanted out to check on Saber. He would run down the hall and find Saber then he would run back to the bathroom. I would shut the door, then he would want back out. You get the idea. I had to lure Saber into the bathroom with some goldfish crackers. He ate them as I stuck Nathan in the tub. He walked out, I shut the door and Nathan forgot about him long enough to take his bath. As soon as I opened the bathroom door, he ran up to Saber like he missed him dearly. Then he drove his car on his back. Nathan must have forgotten that he has a room-sized road rug.
Saber must not have minded because he kept coming up to Nathan as he played with is car.
And that was our day.
