Just the Two of Us

Oma and Opa snuck out of the house early this morning without making a peep. A couple of hours later, I heard Nathan in his bed practicing his funny sounds and giggles so I went in and got him. The first thing he did was point down the hall with a look of anticipation. I put him on the floor and he ran down the hall pointing the whole way to the living room. Poor kid ran into the empty room and stopped in his tracks. His audience was gone. Right then and there he realized it was back to just the two of us.

Yesterday, Oma and Opa took Nathan for a walk from our house to downtown. They had intentions of taking him to one of his favorite restaurants, Botticelli's, but like most Rapid City businesses, they make their own hours up each day and you never know when they're open. They were closed, but no big deal, Oma and Opa kept walking until they found Enigma. Oma reported back on his behavior at the restaurant and said he was the perfect little gentleman with exquisite manners. Maybe he can teach his daddy a thing or two.

Here are some pictures of Nathan's activities over the weekend. I'm sure Oma and Opa have a lot more pictures. Steve and I have a habit of neglecting Nathan when grandparents are around, so these are the few pictures that we got.

After playing in the sandbox, Oma took Nathan's shorts off and shook them. Nathan thought that was funny.
Observing as Opa gets the sand off his feet.
Funny story. Oma and Opa brought Nathan the book "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See" and the stuffed bear to go along with it. After I read that book at least 15 times per day (who knows how many times everyone else read it), I thought I was going to go insane. "Brown Bear" was such a hit, so we thought Nathan might like the rest of the series. Oma got him the other books and when he woke up from his nap he browsed through his new book collection and pulled out the same old "Brown Bear" book. This kid knows exactly what he wants and he won't accept any substitutes!
Playing outside after our walk.
Spreading marigold seeds with Oma.
He likes to make silly faces and entertain during his meals. He starts off with a serious face....
Then he breaks out a big smile followed with a crazy laugh.
More sandbox play.
Dumping sand all over his lap.
Nathan really milked the grandparent situation over the weekend. He went to bed at 10:30 p.m. (2 hours later than his normal bedtime). As I was cleaning up his toys for the night he started yelling so Daddy let him get up. Here he is wide awake at 11 p.m.
He brought me his shoes thinking he was going to get to go outside and play.....at 11 p.m.
Look for more boring days of just Nathan and me hanging out doing our usual Rapid City thing until next weekend. Nathan gets another dose of grandparent spoiling next weekend.

  3. If Nathan did stay up past 9:30 p.m. Grandma wouldn't know it. Nothing, not even Nathan, comes between Grandma and her sleep.
